Michelle Hernandez Burke

Michelle Hernandez-Burke, at 54 years old, a loving mother, wife, sister, friend, and patriot, passed away unexpectedly on February 18, 2024. Michelle was born on August 18, 1969, in Evergreen Park, Illinois.

Michelle was a loving and God-fearing soul who had a wonderful and original sense of humor. She touched the hearts and lives of people on a personal level and made countless sacrifices for others. She is going to be greatly missed, including by her cat “Squirmy” who was often treated with his organic home-grown catnip.

Michelle graduated in 1996 with a Bachelor of Science in Clinical Laboratory Sciences from Finch University (Rosalind Franklin University). Also, in 1999, she graduated with a Master of Arts in Education from National Louis University. Michelle was a Medical Technologist at Vista Medical Center.

Her love of God was shown in her everyday life duties. She was a prayer warrior, daily Mass goer, and frequently served her neighbor-always displaying her golden soul. Michelle had many interests, including gardening, sewing, target practice at a shooting range, baking, and cooking. Michelle was a CCD Teacher at Saint Anastasia and an active volunteer at WSFI Catholic Radio.

Michelle was survived by: her husband John Burke and her children Jillian (Thomas) Hernandez and Ava, her parents Therese and Pablo (Paul) Hernandez. Her In-Laws Barbara and John Reznar, brother Daniel Hernandez, and sister Kathryn Marolt. Michelle had a host of in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles, and dear friends.

Visitation will be held on Friday February 23, 2024, from 5:00 pm - 8:00 pm at Peterson & Patch in Waukegan, IL. Additional Visitation on Saturday February 24, 2024, from 9:00 am - 11:00 am at St. Anastasia Church, Waukegan, IL, followed by a Funeral Mass at 11:00 am.

Internment at Ascension Cemetery, Libertyville IL. Luncheon details will be provided after the Internment.
