Mary H. (May) Lockhart

–

Waukegan, Illinois

Mary H. (May) Lockhart passed the horizon we call death on July 10, 2015, at the Pavilion of Waukegan Nursing Home. May was born in Glasgow, Scotland on March 24, 1923 and immigrated to Waukegan with her parents in 1930, at the age of seven.
May was a member of the First United Methodist Church joining in 1942. She taught Sunday school. Participated in women’s bible study, and sang in the church choir and Waukegan Philharmonic choir under the direction of Leslie Gilkey. She graduated from Waukegan Township High School in 1942 and attended the Chicago Business School. Mary worked for the north Shore Line, Arwill (Orkin), and retired from the Waukegan News-Sun as secretary to the Editor and Managing Editor in 1986.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Mary C. and John Lockhart and several relatives in Scotland, England and Canada. May’s cat, Princess gave her many hours of love and comfort. May was proud of her Scottish Heritage and made her last trip to Scotland with her mother in 1965.
She is survived by caregivers, Marilynn and Dennis Moisio, Christine and Roger Harrison and many friends. She enjoyed making her weekly phone calls and remembering them with birthday, anniversary and special occasion cards.
Memorial service will be held at the First United Methodist Church 128 N. Martin Luther King, Jr. St. Waukegan with the Rev. Dr. C. Harris officiating, on August 4, 2015 at 11:00 AM. Interment will be private at Northshore Garden of Memories next to her mother and father.
Special thank you to Dr. R. Patel, his office staff and staff at the Pavilion Nursing Home for their compassionate care and management of May’s final days.
