Landon "Pete" L. Strong Obituary (1936

Landon “Pete” Lawrence Strong, 80, of Waukegan passed away at his home Sunday, November 6, 2016 after spending the weekend surrounded by family and friends. He was born September 22, 1936 in Spangler, PA. to the late Paul and Winifred Strong. Pete married Barbara Lencioni on June 11, 1960 and they were blessed to spend 56 years of married life together. He was a dedicated and loving husband and father to five boys. Pete was a veteran, he served in the United States Army, being stationed at Ft. Sheridan, where he met and married his loving wife Barbara. He spent 35 years as an electrician for American Can Co. in Waukegan and spent his career as a union leader with the AFL-CIO. Pete loved watching his boys play sports, family vacations and long Sunday drives followed by a family dinner. In Pete’s younger years in Pennsylvania he played baseball in the “Pony League” of Bakerton, PA. and they gave him the nick name “Strong Arm Pete Strong” because his pitching won so many games for the team. After being discharged he returned to Pennsylvania and worked in the coal mines before returning to Illinois. He will be deeply missed by his children, Kyle, Peter (Tonya), Joel (Lisa), Marc (Jeanne) and Darin Strong; grandchildren, Bradley, Landon, Cecilia, Austin, Colin, Luke, Cheyanne, Sierra, Mackenzie, Ian, Gabriela, Kameron, Nicholas and Alexis; brother, Bob Strong; nephew, Karl and many nieces, nephews and extended family and friends. Pete was preceded by his parents and brothers, Paul, Jack and Kenny; in-laws, Julius and Lilas Lencioni, Lenora and Janet. Chapel Service and interment will be at 11:00 AM, Friday, November 11, 2016 at Ascension Cemetery 1920 Buckley Rd. in Libertyville. Visitation will be from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Thursday, November 10, 2016 at PETERSON & PATCH FUNERAL HOME 408 N. Sheridan Rd. Waukegan. In lieu of flowers donations in Pete’s name may be made to a charity of your choice.
