Hugo Kiaupa Obituary (1926

Hugo Kiaupa, age 90, died at Condell Hospital on January 12, 2017. Hugo was born in Lithuania on March 8, 1926. He came to the United States in 1949 and settled in Waukegan after a two year stay in Fort Collins, Colorado where his immigration sponsor was located. Hugo worked at Fansteel until his retirement. He was a long time active member of the Lithuanian-American Community and was elected by the Waukegan-Lake County Chapter to serve as Treasurer (8-29-59), Vice President (4-1-63) and voted as candidate to the Board of Directors (5-15-67). . Survivors include his loving, lifetime partner, Bernice Pocius as well as his 2 nieces, Regina Markunas Siske of Glencoe and Silvia Masini of Barrington. He also leaves 2 nephews, Paul Markunas of Florida and Raymond Upenieks of Wisconsin. Hugo was preceded in death by 2 sisters, Olga Markunas and Herta Upenieks as well as 4 brothers, Emil, Ewald, Vilius and Martin. Services will be held at Peterson & Patch Funeral Home, 408 N. Sheridan Rd, Waukegan, IL, 60085 on Friday, January 20, 2017 at 11 AM. Burial will be private.
