David Alloian

David Sarkis Alloian (Dave, “Mr. A”), 78, of Waukegan, IL passed away Thursday, January 5, 2023.
Dave was born in Waukegan, IL, the son of Minas (Michael) and Rose (Vartanoush) Alloian and was a Waukegan resident most of his life. He graduated from Waukegan Township High School and went on to earn a full scholarship to Northern Illinois University to complete his Bachelors and later his Masters in Education. Dave began his teaching career in Waukegan. Then moved to Jefferson School in Mundelein, IL in 1969, later transferring to Mechanics Grove – retiring in 2002 after serving 34 years in the district. Generations of students, teachers, and administrators fondly remember “Mr. A” and his menagerie (especially his ducks!) and some of his trademark classroom moves. Parents were thankful that their own children had opportunity to be in their beloved “Mr.A’s” class where “learning was made fun” and all students were made welcome and respected. David had many opportunities in leadership (Assistant Principal, Teacher Union President) but his real love was working in the classroom. When asked about his proudest moments- he shared that “I always enjoyed when kids came back to visit me and share their successes as an adult. I also felt it was an achievement to earn the respect from kids.” While David’s life revolved around teaching, he was also an avid Chicago sports fan. Especially his beloved Cubbies! He was a long term member of the St. George Armenian Apostolic Church. Dave is survived by his sister in law Lucy Alloian, 3 nephews: Tim (Carol), Jeff, and Greg and grand niece/nephew Ani & Michael and cousins Julie Barsoumian, Bill Henderson and Jack Derhagopian. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Michael Alloian, aunts and uncles and other beloved extended family. Visitation will be Friday, January 13 @ 5-9pm at Peterson and Patch Funeral Home, 408 N Sheridan Road, Waukegan, IL. Funeral Services will be Saturday, January 14 @ 10am at George Armenian Apostolic Church, 1015 N. McAree Rd, Waukegan, IL. Reverend Sahag Kashian officiating. Interment will be at North Shore Garden of Memories, North Chicago. In lieu of flowers, donations in celebration of David Sarkis Alloian may be made to St. George Armenian Apostolic Church.
