Calvin Clark

Waukegan, Illinois

Calvin (Cal) Clark, age 73, passed away on July 28, 2023. He served in the Navy and was a Vietnam Veteran and was proud to let everyone know this by wearing his vet hat everywhere he went. While in the Navy, he met the love of his life, Donna Mae Kipp, and the two were married for 48 years at the time of his death.

Cal loved to take advantage of whatever fad was hot at the time. Whether it was memorizing card
sequences to know which pack had a Bill Ripken, having a seat in the baseball card aisle to search packs to find hologram cards, hitting up every Hallmark in Lake County in search of a Princess Di beanie baby, making a deal with Dan to set aside Starting Lineups at KB Toys or buying CD collections at garage sales to flip, he loved to have fun while providing for his family.

One of Cal’s favorite things to do was tell stories. We will miss hearing about the time him and Dan sat next to Halle Berry at a Bulls game, or the time he took a group from a local halfway home to the Home Run derby at Wrigley in 1990 and ended up under the field, or the time he lost $1400 at a garage sale, or the time he gave a six pack to Tracy Lawrence.

Cal could often be found at a flea market every weekend, or at Dan’s softball games, or the concession stand at Bowen Park, or the Peacock Family Restaurant, or the OTB, or playing 31 with family, or playing bags wherever he could find a set of boards, or at his grandson’s baseball and football games in his later years.

Cal is preceded in death by parents Clyde and Ruby Clark, sisters Dorothy Corbitt and Martha Hess, and brother Bud Clark. He is survived by wife Donna Clark, sisters Billie Brown and Sue Clark, son Dan Clark, daughter-in-law Jaime, grandsons Xander and Leo Clark, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Please join us in the celebration of Calvin's life on August 6th, 2023, from 12:00 pm - 3:00 pm at Peterson & Patch Funeral Home on 408 N. Sheridan Road.
