Preston Jones Obituary (1945 - 2024)

The beloved Preston Lee Jones was called home on April 17, 2024 in Waukegan, Illinois. Preston was born in Tralake, Mississippi on March 16, 1945 to the late Hanable Jones, Sr. and Fannie Lee Jones. Preston attended school in Black Bayou School District in Mississippi. He also obtained his CDL. In the late 1960's, Preston came to Waukegan, Illinois to begin a new life. Preston met Mattie in Waukegan, Illinois and they began their union in 1973. During their union together they had two daughters, Cassandra and Christine and one son Anthony. Preston was employed at OMC for many years. After his employment at OMC, Preston worked for Kix Kutzler Express, Inc. as a truck driver. During his time at Kix Kutzler Express, Inc., Preston became a valuable part of the Kix Kutzler family. Preston left Kix Kutzler and started working at Abbott Laboratories in North Chicago, Illinois until his retirement. Abbott Laboratories presented Preston with many awards for his dedication and accomplishments. Although, Preston was retired, he could not stay away from the Kix Kutzler family. He would often go there to work on semi-trucks and hang out with the employees. Preston was well known in his community. In his spare time, he enjoyed riding his Kawaski motorcycle, fixing cars, watching Nascar races, and watching cowboy movies. He also enjoyed sitting in the garage or on the back porch drinking coffee and enjoying the weather. Preston leaves to cherish his memory his wife for over fifty years Mattie Jones (Waukegan, Illinois), Cassandra Jones (daughter, Kenosha, Wisconsin), Christine (Anthony) Pfeiffer (daughter, Zion, Illinois), and Anthony (Latoya) (son, Crete, Illinois). Ten grandkids, three great-grandkids, and a host of nieces and nephews. Preston was preceded in death by his parents Hanable Jones, Sr. and Fannie Lee Jones, one sister Bessie Mae Laws, two brothers, Felix Jones and Percy Jones. Preston is survived by his wife Mattie Jones, two siblings Ruby Robinson (sister), Hanable Jones, Jr. (brother), Cassandra and Christine (daughters), Anthony (son), and grandkids and great-grand kids.
