Herminia Martinez Obituary (1941 - 2024)

Herminia Martinez (known as Hermie and “La Guera”) was born on February 17, 1941, in Laredo, Texas. Herminia passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving husband, children, and grandchildren on July 26, 2024 in Kenosha, Wisconsin. Herminia graduated from the culinary school in Chicago. She enjoyed cooking and perfected making the most awesome flour tortillas you could imagine. Herminia was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who enjoyed spending time with her family during outings, cookouts, dancing and bingo. Herminia was a joyful person who loved visiting with her sisters who loved singing old Spanish songs and reminiscing about her family and upbringing in Laredo, Texas. Herminia was very proud of all her children, her grandchildren and their accomplishments. She also loved to see her son Oscar Martinez Jr. (Oscar Wylde) perform and sing in different venues. She was his biggest fan. Herminia was preceded in death by her parents, Leopoldo and Emma Rodriguez, her siblings, (infant sisters Maria Minerva and Minerva Rodriguez), Eduardo Rodriguez, Leopoldo Rodriguez, and Raquel Figueroa. She was also preceded in death by her infant son, Alejandro Martinez and her adult son, Fernando Martinez (surviving spouse Brenda Martinez). Herminia is survived by Oscar Martinez Sr., her loving husband of 66 years and her children: Oscar Martinez Jr. (Raelena Petrovick), Jorge Martinez, Isabel Reed, Susan Sacramento (Nicky), Monica Mercado (Luis), and Olivia Connor (Jeffery). Herminia is survived by her 13 grandchildren, her 15 great grandchildren. Herminia is also survived by her brother, Ramiro Rodriguez (Frances), and her sisters Maria de Lourdes Martinez (Mauricio), Gloria Garza, and Imelda Martinez (Jose) and numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation and memorial service will be held on Sunday, July 28, 2024 from 4:00 pm - 6:00 pm at Peterson & Patch Funeral Home, 408 N. Sheridan Road, Waukegan, IL 60085.
